We are only three weeks out of UFC 202 and the highly anticipated rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz!
In latest news, Nate Diaz currently weighs around 200 lbs per his boxing coach. That means that he will lose some of it during the next two weeks and cut the last bit on fight week to weigh in at 170 lbs before the fight.
On the day of the fight, he could be back to 185 or more, which would make him a decently sized welterweight.
On the other hand, McGregor had to eat up to make weight in their first fight. Originally fighting at 145 lbs and 155 lbs, he naturally has a smaller body than Nate.
Considering his statements that he will come into the rematch light, we may see an even greater weight and size difference this time.
While having less weight on him will make him faster, he didn’t seem to lack speed in his hands when he battered Diaz with his signature left hand in their first encounter.
In related news, Eddie Alvarez accused Conor of only taking fights that are good style match-ups for him.
Alvarez has also called for the McGregor fight before, after defeating Rafael Dos Anjos.
While McGregor hasn’t fought every wrestler in the Top 10 of the feather- and lightweight, he fought Chad Mendes(albeit on short notice), he fought Jose Aldo, whose gameplan was taking Conor to the ground(he fight just ended before he could attempt it), and was scheduled to fight Dos Anjos, a pressure fighter and a strong wrestler, a near-nightmare style match-up.
All of that, along with the fact that he is taking on Nate Diaz, a taller, bigger opponent, way outside his weightclass and a fighter he has already lost to once, should put the doubters to rest.
If there is one thing that is true about McGregor, he certainly has pair on him.
Stay tuned for more updates on UFC 202 in the coming weeks!
