[Confirmation Pending] Khabib vs Ferguson for the lightweight interim title set for UFC 209

As per reports from the Russian media outlet Izvestia, we will finally see this lightweight match at UFC 209. Khabib vs Ferguson, gooooooooo!

Since the champion, Conor McGregor will be taking at least some time off, the UFC were quick to book an interim title fight. However, McGregor said that the rumors about him taking a year off might not be true.

Nonetheless, it seems that the fight will come to fruition at last. And well, interim belts have only been used recently to basically draw more casual fans. I guess we can expect to see more of it in the future. Also, it looks like the fight was offered to Jose Aldo only as a negotiation tool.

Both men have been the two top contenders at 155 for a while now. The debates about who deserves the title shot more are endless. The truth is, both do. Khabib is undefeated and he put a beating on Micheal Johnson. Ferguson beat up the former champ Rafael dos Anjos and won his last nine. So, when both guys want it, it makes sense for them to fight to determine the real #1 contender. Khabib vs Ferguson is the right thing to do, even if you do lose one of the contenders, who then has to climb the rankings. But if they are truly good, they will do it.

Whoever wins this fight will get to fight Conor McGregor. Personally, I’m really excited about all three match-ups. Each presents its own set of intricacies: the wrestling of Khabib if he takes on Conor, how Ferguson’s striking will match with McGregor’s and if Tony’s BJJ can prevent the GnP of Nurmagomedov and submit him.

Now that its finally confirmed, who will you root for in this fight? Khabib or Ferguson? Let me know in the comment section below.
